Help Familia Unida FILL THE FIREHOUSE SHOP

and bring the bike builder program to Medford kids in high crime areas!

Now that Familia Unida has space in the right neighborhood, it’s time to plan for serving the kids and changing lives.  YOU CAN HELP by making a donation to help FILL THE SHOP!  $10,000 to 15,000 worth of tools & equipment would provide a bike building experience that captivates kids.  We teach kids to work on bikes and have give them to other kids.  We have given away hundreds of repaired & tuned bikes to area Southern Oregon kids!  Kids helping kids builds confidence, charity, humility and more.  Learn about the Firehouse, our shop, program, the hoods we serve and consider a donation below on this page.  The community’s donations and grants from businesses & organizations help us serve more kids.

Original Firehouse on 8th in Medford

Purchased by Youth 71Five Ministries, the old firehouse is in the highest crime area of Medford, Oregon, a vision of long-time community servant Matt Sweeny.  It has been renovated into a community service building, with multiple youth activity & mentoring programs.   Familia Unida has partnered with Youth 71Five to bring the bike building to at risk kids in the shop!

The Service Area

The Service Area for kid that may visit the bike building program at the firehouse includes the Southwest Medford Area.  It is framed by McAndrews to the north, Garfield to the South, Lozier to the west and Biddle to the East.  This allows us to bring the program to the highest crime density crime area in Medford.  The area includes multiple parks and schools.

Crime Map ONE (1)

This crime map is provided by Spot Crime, and shows just 24 hours on a randomly chosen Wednesday night in Medford, Oregon, with most crime concentrated in the intended service area for the firehouse and Familia Unida Bike Builders Program.  By reaching kids that are growing up near criminal activity, we reduce future drug use and gang membership.

Crime Map TWO (2)

This crime map is provided by Neighborhood Scout and shows cumulative crime by neighborhood in Medford, Oregon.  The data shows that the darkest areas, with the most crime are close to the new firehouse.  Through mentoring and learning to work with their hands, kids in the program will find safety and positive influence.  Familia Unida Bike Builders provides leadership, bikes and guidance.

Remodeled Youth 71Five Firehouse

The “new” Medford, Oregon 8th Street Firehouse, a youth community program building is almost complete.  Familia Unida plans to move into the shop with the roll-up door and start helping kids in May or June.  The final touches will be made on the building, and Youth 71Five has provided and very cost-efficient lease for the shop!  Pictured left to right: Rico Gutierrez, Dave Clark, Matt Sweeny.

Have A Good Bike? We Use It TWICE!

When you donate a good, working bike to Familia Unida, the bike gets used TWICE to help kids.  The first time when the bike is tuned up and minor repairs made.  The kids learn to take instruction, work with their hands and help the kids that need bikes.  The second time it helps kids us upon delivery of a bike to a child.  Kids get exposed to thinks like painting and fabrication with show bikes.

Thank you for visiting and please consider donating to help us serve more kids.  Together we can keep kids out of gangs and off of drugs through skill development & mentoring. Familia Unida Bike Builders, a charitable 501 C (3) non profit organization.
